Take Me to the Moon 4.12: I Only Meant to Stay a While

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter

This post is meant to be viewed while playing the music on the player to the right, and scrolled through in pace with the lyrics.  Eventually, I hope to replace this post with a slideshow but it is taking time to work out the technical issues.  Thanks!

Electric Light Orchestra
Time
Prologue

"Just on the border of your waking mind
There lies... Another time
Where darkness & light are one
And as you tread the halls of sanity
You feel so glad to be
Unable to go beyond

I have a message
From another time...

(Pause scrolling through the post, and music will transition to the song Twilight...)

The visions dancing in my mind
The early dawn, the shades of time

 Twilight crawling through my windowpane

Am I awake or do I dream,

The strangest pictures I have seen

Night is day and twilight's gone away

With your head held high and your scarlet lies

You came down to me from the open skies

It's either real or it's a dream
There's nothing that is in between

Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile

Twilight, I gave you Time to steal my mind
Away from me.

Across the night I saw your face

You disappeared without a trace

You brought me here, but can you take me back

Inside the image of your light

That now is day and once was night

You lead me here and then you go away.

It's either real or it's a dream, there's nothing that is in between.

Twilight, Twilight, Twilight

I give you Time
to steal my mind

Away from me

You brought me here now can you take me back again?
With your head held high and your scarlet lies,
you came down to me from the open skies

It's either real or its a dream, there's nothing that is in between

Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile
Twilight, I give you Time,
to steal my mind

Twilight,
I only meant to stay a while

Twilight,
I only meant to stay awhile

Twilight, Twilight, Twilight, Twilight

(Epilogue,
pause scrolling as the Epilogue begins)

You should be so happy
You should be so glad
21st century man.

Though you ride on the wheels of tomorrow
You still wander the fields of your sorrow.

Time, Time, Time, Time.

  1. WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE PICTURES?

So, does this mean that Delaney now remembers her trips into space?

    1. These are the pictures from Delaney's short mission to Sixam, the alien planet. She upgraded her rocket with a wormhole generator and flew there, but she took the wormhole at Sixam back to earth.

The baby is Eric Tesla, who actually grew up just after she returned to a child. Alexander wanted to try for baby again and I figured she'd be happy to have a big family.

She is now able to actually go somewhere, this planet, in the rocket. She hasn't even begun to explore. I think there's a populated area.

    2. Dang! I didn't know there was an alien planet that came with Get to Work. Though, now that you mention it, I do think I read that there were aliens in disguise added to the expansion.

The planet is breathtaking. Can you move there?

    3. That's a good question. I'm not sure if you can move there. I think there is an inhabited area but I haven't found it. On her second trip I saw an alien in the distance, but Delaney did not notice or meet the alien. I've been looking for a secret entrance/area but haven't found one. But she's only visited twice so far.

    4. There's so much more world exploration in Sims 4. It's fascinating to read about.

  2. Oh, was this added with Get to Work? The rocket trips used to be just off-lot things, right?

That's pretty cool. You got some amazing shots! Some of the song lyrics had me worried that maybe Delaney wouldn't come back. I'm glad she did though. :)

    1. The rocket trips used to be like going to a career. The rocket flew into the sky, then the sim disappeared for a few hours and there were chance cards. Now with Get to Work, one option is to use the worm hole generator and go to Sixam. It is amazing looking!

Even though I knew in my head Delaney was safe, it felt pretty momentous to send her through a wormhole to another planet, and so the song reflects my feelings about the experience. The plant she took samples from was carnivorous, so that worried me a bit, plus there's the ominous idea of aliens that might abduct one lurking about. The music goes really great with the pictures, actually. (And this is a song I love from late childhood).

I'm a big fan of well written sci-fi, and interested in relativity, physics, and how those ideas tie into existentialism/human condition (I LOVED Interstellar!) so the lyrics helped express some of those ideas, I felt. I felt that as a mom and astronaut, Delaney would be torn between exploring the cosmos and being with her family, and since Sims 4 babies conveniently jump from being a baby to a four/five year old, that fit in great with the idea of relativity. She was only exploring Sixam for about 25 minutes, and gone for a few sim hours, but in the meantime, years passed at home.

      Thanks so much for commenting!

  3. Wow... these pictures are stunning! I'm glad that Delaney was safe while she was there... that is crazy that years passed while she was away. Darn no toddlers in TS4! The world and the camp ground vacation... ahhh loads of love from me! Very fun to see the game through you, as I haven't bought or played even a demo of it yet. Everything is very new to me! The new expansion looks super fun! Excited to see what happens next!

    1. That's great, Maisie, it makes me happy that you are enjoying reading it. I was not disappointed with the alien world, it was really exotic and beautiful. I was glad she was safe too. It's nice for her to have adventures and all, but with a safe range, ha.

  4. This is so cool! I'm so excited now to get GTW. I love the way that you tied it into the ELO song!
