Simdale Valley Architects Go Overboard on new YMCA Pool!

The Simdale YMCA has reopened, with a widely anticipated multi-million dollar renovation including a state-of-the-art gym, smoothie bar, internet cafe, and rooftop pool.  Now Simdale Valley residents can enjoy the pool inside or out!

This is a mini-update.

This is the neighborhood (open world segment) that the Ono's live in.  The green house in the foreground is the only house I left standing, that shipped with the game.  It looked a lot like the Endeavor's house did in Sims 2, and I loved the placement right next to the children's park (as it was in Sims 2).  It's fun to imagine Simone taking Sienna and Charlotte out to the park.   I renovated the interior and a little bit to the exterior front.

Across from the Endeavors (next to the Ono's) I will probably build Laney and Declan's house.  There is a community garden behind that lot.  The last lot, I currently plan to be the location of Simdale Valley Church (and graveyard).  I will probably wait a bit to see if graveyards are added to the game before building it.

The Ono's are the first family to make the move from Sims 2 to Sims 4.  Their house is pretty close to the way it looked before; except before it sat on a bluff overlooking Port Prominence Bay.  In this world, the commercial area and one residential lot overlook Port Prominence Bay and the other homes are on rivers or canals.

One of the proposed expansions (in the survey that was circulated by EA)  would allow players to customize their worlds more.  That's one I most hope is made reality eventually.

My dad was a member of the prestigious fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa, back when he was a student at PSU, so I've always felt this expectation, that I'll rush, pledge, and be inducted into the fraternity.   My dad's such a people person, everybody loves him.  Deep down, I've wondered if I can cut it, but I met Anand, one of the fraternity brothers, at a mixer at Welcome Week, in the fall, and he's a great guy.  (Plus he introduced me to Hattie, and we went out). 

Anand told me rush wouldn't be a big deal - - there would be a opening party for rush week, then us pledges will need to do some community service and show we can put together an event, and then at the end of the semester, there's a big formal to celebrate the new pledges.

At school yesterday, we learned the old saying that when March comes in like a lion, it goes out like a lamb. I think my mom would say the weather has been "a bear" this March.  It's been snowy, and rainy, and cold, and she doesn't like the melty snow which means that people (dad!) tracks more mud into the house on his shoes.  

At least in March, there is soccer to watch, even if mom won't always let me be outside to play it.   The night before our big grade 3 achievement  test at school, I watched West Brom vs. Manchester United.  But then Mom made me go to bed because she said I needed a good night's sleep for the test.  Really, the test was just an extra excuse for mom.  She always makes me go to bed early anyway.

The day I went off to PSU, I went in to say goodbye to Yuki.  She was sitting on her bed, acting like she was meditating.   Mom said she told her she  was going to "be present in the moment" so she could remember this important day in our life.   She said her soccer coach in after-school has been teaching them techniques for positive thinking.  That kid says some funny things for a five-year-old.

I don't need to meditate to remember the first time we drove onto campus.  We used to live in Port Prominence, but even back when I was 16, it seemed like it would be forever before I would be moving to campus.

Lot Tour: Jack's Place

Jack's Place is a seafood restaurant at the pier in Simdale Valley.  It's named after Captain Jack, the notorious pirate who is rumored to have wintered and hid out in Port Prominence bay, thanks to its steep cliff walls.  The fish is good, and the staff wear pirate gear, which seems to please the locals even more than the tourists.  Locals tend to be pretty proud of their infamous Captain Jack.

Jack's Place has especially good ambiance at night, when you can look out over the dark bay and picture a pirate ship skirting along its shores.

The Ono Family, Round 2 (Year 603)

The Ono family lives at the end of Endeavor Lane, looking out over Port Prominence Bay.  A tour of their house is found on Tumblr.

On the last day of spring, Daniel took the kids to the Simdale YMCA so Yuki could play soccer and Seiki could play on the computers and meet people.  Sayuri, of course, was at the Simdale Clinic, where she is the primary care physician.

The Ono Family moved to Simdale Valley in Year 600, after Sayuri was recruited to be the town doctor.  Daniel is a game designer and has always taken the primary responsibility for caring for the kids while Sayuri has concentrated on her career.  He is a playful, attentive dad, almost always available when he's not at work to toss a ball with Yuki or play video games with Seiki.  Seiki declared the art major after one semester at PSU.   Seiki got very good at tinkering in high school, after getting a robotics table for his 16th birthday.  His senior year he was working on cleaning bots to help around the house.  Yuki wants a soccer goal for the backyard, but is going to have to wait for the family budget to allow it.  Yuki is a good student and mostly compliant child, who gets away with things when she can without getting in trouble too much, sometimes.

Simdale Valley Clinic was mortgaged to Sayuri at 0% interest in exchange for her services as town doctor, so eventually it should make a good living for the family, but for now they are living mainly on Daniel's salary and savings they had from Port Prominence, where Sayuri was an ob/gyn at the medical center.  It is tight right now because they are also paying a partial mortgage on the house.
