Julia and Hattie are planning to move out of the Honors Dorm, if they can find an apartment they can afford, before they start their junior year.  The bad food, and bizarre dormies, get to you after a while.  And with Julia's scholarships they think they can find somewhere to live.

Julia has been in a rut with Abram since they got together at the end of her freshman year.  Their relationship was like phosphorus burning...so bright and hot for a brief shining moment.  She just doesn't seem to care about spending time with him, even though she cares about him.  He hadn't seen her in a while, so he dropped by the dorm during a jog, and she just about totally ignored him.

Simdale Valley hasn't been such a lonely place since Julien and I fell in love; now if I could just earn my place as part of the community.  Everyone acts so friendly; unless you try to take them up on that "Y'all come over sometime," offer.  Even though I work at  the Town Hall, to keep it going and answer tourist's questions, I haven't felt really included here.

Julien and I got together two years ago, Valentines' Day 603, after we met at Christmastime.  He's kind and selfless, really romantic and intense at times.

I live with my mom, my dad, and my cat, Snowbell, on Endeavor Lane in Simdale Valley.  Our house only has one bathroom and it doesn't have a dining room.  Mom says we aren't going to have any more kids in our family.  She and dad need their office for work, so if we had a baby I guess the baby would have to share with mom and dad, like Snowbell does.

Zachary "Zach" Roberts-Bruty turned one this December.  Zach is a very active, very outgoing little boy who keeps his mom and dad on their toes.

The Roberts-Bruty family is feeling a little pinched for space in their small bungalow, but still managing.

Sandy is almost 40, and Zane is 38.  Maybe having their first child in their late 30's has let them have a little more appreciation of the experience, in spite of the challenges.

This fall, Hattie Granger moved into the honors dorm.  Her brother and sister are big into Greek life, but even though Hattie gave it a shot, it wasn't for her.  She was already in the honors program, and she seems happier since leaving the sorority house.

September arrived in Simdale Valley with a sudden sting that quickly turned the leaves and jolted anyone who was still merrily living the myth of never-ending balmy summer, right back to reality.

Elise Brown had dragged her classroom stuff out of  summer storage and packed it all up in the family room. She looked at it, figuring out how many hours she needed to get it all sorted out in her new room at school.

Julia was grateful the ocean breeze had a clear path to the Peninsula State Bank, or she feared she would soak through her beautiful new tailored suit before arriving for her pre-internship interview.   But as she rounded the corner to the plaza in front of the bank, she forgot about the heat.  It was hard to believe she was about to start on her banking career, for real.

Honors Dorm, Peninsula State University, Spring 604

One beautiful, bright spring day, Phi and I decided to go downtown to the East End of the Central Park.  I had heard there was a new sidewalk cafe with especially good food, and Phi just wanted to get off campus and away from cleaning up after drunk students for a few hours.  As the RA, it's unbelievable what she has to put up with sometimes.

Phi had also convinced me to invite Abram Carver, the upperclassman who is the advisor for our Global Business cohort, to meet us there.   We had a date in the fall, and it has been really hard to keep from flirting with him during our cohort project meetings; he comes over to the dorm to see me a couple times a week and we get to study by ourselves, though, and we've flirted a lot then, but we haven't kissed again.  I was worried he would say no when I asked him to meet us, which Phi, for some reason, thought was hilarious.  Sometimes she's just weird.  He said he would meet us at the park, which made my heart skip a beat.

My dad was a member of the prestigious fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa, back when he was a student at PSU, so I've always felt this expectation, that I'll rush, pledge, and be inducted into the fraternity.   My dad's such a people person, everybody loves him.  Deep down, I've wondered if I can cut it, but I met Anand, one of the fraternity brothers, at a mixer at Welcome Week, in the fall, and he's a great guy.  (Plus he introduced me to Hattie, and we went out). 

Anand told me rush wouldn't be a big deal - - there would be a opening party for rush week, then us pledges will need to do some community service and show we can put together an event, and then at the end of the semester, there's a big formal to celebrate the new pledges.

At school yesterday, we learned the old saying that when March comes in like a lion, it goes out like a lamb. I think my mom would say the weather has been "a bear" this March.  It's been snowy, and rainy, and cold, and she doesn't like the melty snow which means that people (dad!) tracks more mud into the house on his shoes.  

At least in March, there is soccer to watch, even if mom won't always let me be outside to play it.   The night before our big grade 3 achievement  test at school, I watched West Brom vs. Manchester United.  But then Mom made me go to bed because she said I needed a good night's sleep for the test.  Really, the test was just an extra excuse for mom.  She always makes me go to bed early anyway.

Laney told me a couple weeks after Thanksgiving, she thought we might be pregnant.  We've both been wanting a second child for a couple of years.  We're forty this year, and we would really like three children, so time is of the essence.
