Take Me to the Moon 4.14: Growing Pains

Previous Chapter / Next Post (Tour) / Next Chapter:

Ewan Tesla is about halfway through his teen years; Elise Tesla just became a teen.

From the Journal of Elise Tesla

Let me tell you, finally being a teenager isn't all it's cracked up to be sometimes.   One thing that would revolutionize my life, is if my mom wasn't so weird.

I just asked her to give me some gardening tips so I can use some of the plants in scientific experiments.  But she drives me insane, going on about the fact that she's a Space Ranger, how she learned more about botany since going into space than she ever learned on earth.

She's told us a million times about how she walked on Sixam, the alien planet.

Take Me to the Moon 4.13: Mean Girls

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter:

Delaney came back from her first mission to the alien planet, Sixam, to find her youngest child, Eric, no longer in his bassinet, but a few years older.

Eric was an inquisitive, creative little kid, and when Delaney enthused about how much she loved going on space missions, he seemed a little distressed at the idea.  After all, his mom had missed his whole life up till now!

Take Me to the Moon 4.12: I Only Meant to Stay a While

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter

This post is meant to be viewed while playing the music on the player to the right, and scrolled through in pace with the lyrics.  Eventually, I hope to replace this post with a slideshow but it is taking time to work out the technical issues.  Thanks!

Electric Light Orchestra
Time
Prologue

"Just on the border of your waking mind
There lies... Another time
Where darkness & light are one
And as you tread the halls of sanity
You feel so glad to be
Unable to go beyond

I have a message
From another time...

(Pause scrolling through the post, and music will transition to the song Twilight...)

The visions dancing in my mind
The early dawn, the shades of time

 Twilight crawling through my windowpane

Am I awake or do I dream,

The strangest pictures I have seen

Night is day and twilight's gone away

With your head held high and your scarlet lies

You came down to me from the open skies

It's either real or it's a dream
There's nothing that is in between

Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile

Twilight, I gave you Time to steal my mind
Away from me.

Across the night I saw your face

You disappeared without a trace

You brought me here, but can you take me back

Inside the image of your light

That now is day and once was night

You lead me here and then you go away.

It's either real or it's a dream, there's nothing that is in between.

Twilight, Twilight, Twilight

I give you Time
to steal my mind

Away from me

You brought me here now can you take me back again?
With your head held high and your scarlet lies,
you came down to me from the open skies

It's either real or its a dream, there's nothing that is in between

Twilight, I only meant to stay awhile
Twilight, I give you Time,
to steal my mind

Twilight,
I only meant to stay a while

Twilight,
I only meant to stay awhile

Twilight, Twilight, Twilight, Twilight

(Epilogue,
pause scrolling as the Epilogue begins)

You should be so happy
You should be so glad
21st century man.

Though you ride on the wheels of tomorrow
You still wander the fields of your sorrow.

Time, Time, Time, Time.

Take Me to the Moon 4.11: Mortimer's Wake

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter:

All the grown-ups were preparing for the wake, scurrying around, getting dressed, and Desmond was free to be sad without having to talk to anyone.

Before they brought in the piano, Elise had seen him crying, but she hadn't said anything to him.

Take Me to the Moon 4.10: Once More Unto the Breach

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter

The day dawned, just like every other day, except someone had knocked over the trash can.  Elise saw the trash piles, presumably from her bedroom, and mischievously decided to play in them right before it was time to go to school.

Mortimer was sent to clean up the trash, hopefully before Elise got too dirty for school.   Unfortunately, the Grim Reaper chose this very moment to come for Mortimer.

Take Me to the Moon 4.9: Please Stand By

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter

After returning from the Willow Creek Archive with Mortimer, Delaney was not ready to retire.  Declan Hammond had put a recording program on Alexander's computer, and  she was using Alexander's recent hacking to access the greater World Wide Web outside of the Program Files/Origin Games/The Sims 4.  She voraciously started reading about the Goth Family, the Sims games, and the world of Simmers.

Although the extensive and varied Goth family history was fascinating, her main concern was Cacey's whereabouts.  She quickly found Cacey.  With a simple Google search of her name, a Tumblr account came up, with a link to the Wolff Legacy.

Take Me to the Moon 4.8: Living with Legends

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter

Delaney and Alexander had reached that point in their lives where, to all appearances, they were living the suburban dream:  two beautiful kids, a beautiful home, and climbing steadily in their careers.

Delaney was using more of her free time to take exploratory trips in the rocket to document her experiences, since she realized she actually had no memory of her flights.

Meanwhile, Alexander was going through his days on auto-pilot, somewhere between despair and defiance.

Take Me to the Moon 4.6: An Old Soul

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter

(Reader, please humor me as we take an eventful side-trip to the in-laws, the Goth household, and venture further into the Game Aware Sims subplot while there.  Although some of these characters are now revealed to be more game aware, we will return to our regularly scheduled programming with more oblivious sims, next week.)

Alexander, intrigued, followed Mortimer Goth to the roof.

While playing chess, Alexander had described to his dad how he and Delaney had started wondering about whether other places where even "out there" or not.  He told him that even some of their memories, seemed gone.   Cacey's departure from everywhere had opened their eyes.  Now they realized they knew so little.

Mortimer held up his hand to stop Alexander.  "This discussion warrants a  more epic backdrop.  And better lighting.   To the roof!"

Take Me to the Moon 4.5: So Many Questions, So Scant, Reality

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter:

Narrated by Delaney Tesla
Cacey is leaving for the Wolff Legacy

My aunt, Cacey, told me today she was going to be leaving Oasis Springs.  She's being reassigned by the spy agency, and the whole family was going with her.

(Way to beg the question, Cacey).

I started begging for answers.

"To Willow Creek, right?"

"No, not Willow Creek," she said.

"They have agents in Granite Falls??!  Lucky you!  When can we come visit?"

Cacey told me she wasn't going to Granite Falls, and we weren't going to be able to visit.  But she said she was going to wait till after this baby was born, to leave, so she could help me with Ewan.

"Well, where are you going?" I asked.

"That's a hard question to answer," she said.

In fact, I noticed that she most emphatically did not answer the question of where.

Take Me to the Moon 4.4: Come and Get Your Love

Previous Chapter / Next Chapter
Narrated by Delaney Tesla

(Come and Get Your Love is a song by Redbone)

One night after we'd been working on the rocket together, and looking at the stars, Alexander got this intense look in his eye, and said, "Let's make a baby."

We had lots of fun trying for the next few weeks...
